Laser Hair Removal

Women, Men, and all Skin Types

Laser hair removal safely removes unwanted facial and body hair.  It can be successful with the proper machinery, particularly with a Class 1V medical device, and along with a qualified, experienced technician, who has vast knowledge of the equipment they are using.  It is important for the technician to have expertise and proper education and background in the specific techniques of hair removal.  Laser hair removal allows you to receive a high return for your investment through a permanent reduction of hair for the face and body.  Beware!  IPL devices do not give the same results - that is why the treatments are much cheaper.   Always ask what machine or device is going to be used on you.  Also, BE AWARE, in some situations, if you are not a good candidate for Laser/IPL on the face, it may actually INCREASE facial hair!

Traditional hair removal techniques such as shaving, tweezing, and/or waxing provide only temporary relief and in certain areas of the body, particularly the face, it may stimulate more growth.  Also, many of these temporary methods cause pseudo folliculitus barbae (ingrown hair and much irritation to the skin) which laser hair removal can help rectify.  Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment inside the hair follicle without damaging other structures of the skin.  Keep in mind that good candidates for laser hair removal treatment must have proper hair color and densely populated hair in area of treatment.  Bulk, dark hair growth in an area responds best.  Red, blonde, gray, and white hair do not respond to laser treatments.  This type of hair responds best to electrolysis.  Also, a combination of laser and electrolysis in some individuals gives optimum results.

Multiple treatments are needed for a permanent reduction, and the amount of treatments required vary according to area of treatment.  For example, facial hair and back hair are stimulated by hormones, therefore require more treatments than other body parts for example legs require less treatment.  In some cases, hormonal treatment may be necessary in conjunction with hair removal for optimum results.  This would require seeking an endocrinologist who specializes in hormone imbalances for an assessment.

For laser hair removal, the Candela's Gentle Max-Pro is used which houses both the Alexandrite laser for lighter skin types and the ND-Yag on darker skin types.  As a hair laser patient, you are solely provided with Pamela's expertise at the Mystic Valley Dermatology location.  She will provide care for all of your treatments.  Pamela has performed thousands of treatments on patients of all skin types over the years.  She is one of the handful of providers in the country who has ample experience treating the very darkest of skin types safely and successfully with Candela’s ND-Yag with amazing results!

Electrolysis

Still the Gold Standard for Facial Permanent Hair Removal

Pamela is a licensed electrologist who has been performing electrolysis.  She strongly believes electrolysis to be a permanent solution to hair removal for many when used skillfully with state of the art equipment that provides the three recognized modalities.

Electrolysis is still a important method of permanent hair removal that has maintained its position in the field of hair removal over time as being safe and effective.  Pamela has had the opportunity to use laser and electrolysis over many years and has seen the outcome from both treatments.  She finds they are both very valuable, and when combined, give the ultimate, optimum result in permanent hair removal.  Some individuals are not laser candidates and electrolysis is a better-suited means to permanence.  Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal cleared to state permanent hair removal.  In most cases, electrolysis is much better suited for facial hair removal in women.

Electrolysis and Laser are both a heat destruction of the hair follicle in theory.  The heat is just delivered differently and with electrolysis there is also the option of 3 methods one of which is a chemical action.  A trained electrologist inserts a metal disposable probe into the hair follicle alongside the hair . A small amount of electric current is then delivered to the probe by a sensitive electronic device called an epilator machine.  Some equipment has the availability of using 3 techniques which I personally feel is the best for optimum results. They are the following:

  • Galvanic (direct current) electrolysis – the hair is destroyed by chemical action.
  • Thermolysis (high frequency) electrolysis – the hair root is destroyed by heat production.
  • Blend electrolysis – a combination of the above 2 modalities where the hair root is destroyed by both heat and chemical action at the same time.

All three are safe and effective at treatment time.  I determine what is best for each individuals needs.

Electrolysis can treat all gender, skin types, and all hair no matter what color it may be. Multiple treatments are required and for optimum results.  The length of time varies from person to person and is dependent on many factors.  For example:  medications, hormone disorders, the aging process, and the methods of temporary removal used prior starting treatment.  As in most cases, waxing, tweezing, and threading can stimulate more hair on the face in women.  In some cases, laser hair removal can also stimulate hair growth on women’s faces if they are not a proper candidate.  For example, someone with finer hair growth should not have laser as there is not enough melanin in the hair follicle to absorb the laser energy, so just heat is dispersed all over the face and heat can stimulate hair growth.   Electrolysis has stood the test of time in safety and permanent hair removal.

Rezenerate

Refresh. Renew. Rezenerate.

Rezenerate is a new skin care modality used to create precise and pain free permeations, allowing the outer layer of skin to be gently exfoliated while topical serums are infused deeper and therefore are much more effective. Rezenerate is able to increase efficacy of customized serums to give comparable results as microneedling with less invasiveness and less downtime.

Microneedling

With the Eclipse MicroPen Elite

Aids in the reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, improved skin tone and texture, softer, younger looking skin with fewer signs of aging.  Eclipse MicroPen Elite can improve the appearance of uneven skin tone.

Body areas that can be treated with positive results are face, neck, decollete (chest).

How is the procedure done?

A sterile cartridge containing 12 tiny micro-points is attached to the Eclipse MicroPen Elite. The skin is then washed clean and a numbing cream is applied 30 to 45 minutes prior procedure.  After the patient is numb, the skin is washed clean with a mild gentle cleanser and wiped clean with alcohol disposable wipes.

Pamela uses a 4ml vial of Factor Five Human stem cell growth factor serum. THE PRODUCT DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY ACTUAL STEM CELLS. This serum delivers the best results.  Many facilities who perform this treatment use the patient's plasma. This requires drawing blood from the patient and using the plasma on the skin. Pamela has had the treatment done on her own skin and saw no difference verses growth factor serum.  The Plasma treatment is much more costly and the cells are aged so that would be counter productive.

The Plasma is best used for treating hair loss on the scalp for hair restoration. So in theory it could possibly have potential to stimulate hair on the face.

The next step is using the pen in a single motion pressing gently against the skin with the Factor Five stem cell serum on the skin which allows the pen to glide in a single motion.  Three passes are used treating the entire area of treatment using various directions. Some areas will require going over with a stamping effect such as acne scars and deeper wrinkles.

The procedure takes about 30 minutes.

Immediately after the treatment, you will notice a bright redness to the skin.  The total healing time is on average 24 to 48 hours and patients must use our recommended post care kit only for 3 to 5 days post treatment.

Patients will notice an immediate glow to their skin.  Visible changes develop over the course of several weeks.  Results can continue to improve up to 6 months post treatment.

It is recommended to have 3 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart with requiring a single treatment once a year for optimum results.  Every patient's needs vary depending on the condition of their skin while some may need more than 3 treatments. Everyone must have a complimentary consultation and complete a medical history form.
